About the Firm

A specialist practice built around the needs of private clients.

Xandori Legal was established to give individuals and families access to the kind of probate and private client counsel that was once the preserve of major international firms. We work on estates of every scale — from straightforward matters to multi-jurisdictional administrations spanning several continents.

Our approach is direct and personal. Clients work with experienced solicitors, not junior associates. We explain each stage of the probate process clearly, manage third-party coordination on your behalf, and keep you informed throughout — without the opacity that can make estate administration feel unnecessarily burdensome.

Cross-border matters involve differing legal systems, procedures and requirements. We help clients understand what applies in each relevant jurisdiction, and we work with local counsel where needed.

Why Clients Choose Us

Experienced, direct, and genuinely attentive.

Probate and estate matters are rarely straightforward, and they are rarely impersonal. Families navigating bereavement and legal complexity need practitioners who understand both dimensions — the law and the human context in which it operates.

At Xandori Legal, we do not delegate client relationships. You work with senior solicitors throughout, and we hold ourselves to a standard of communication that many clients tell us they have struggled to find elsewhere.

About the firm
Senior solicitors handle your matter

We do not pass client files to trainees or junior associates. Every estate we administer is overseen by an experienced probate solicitor from start to finish.

Transparent fees and clear timelines

We provide detailed cost estimates at the outset and update you if anything changes. Probate can take time — we explain why, and we keep things moving.

International capacity when you need it

If an estate involves assets or beneficiaries in multiple jurisdictions, we coordinate with trusted practitioners overseas, so you have a single point of contact.

Discreet handling of sensitive matters

Family wealth, estate disputes, and succession decisions are private. We treat every client matter with the confidentiality it deserves.

How the Process Works

Probate and estate administration — five stages you should understand.

Procedures differ by jurisdiction, but estates generally move through broadly similar stages. Understanding each stage helps families plan, set expectations, and avoid unnecessary delays.

1

Initial Review

We review the will, the composition of the estate, and the identity of beneficiaries. We advise on the appropriate application — grant of probate or letters of administration.

2

Document Preparation

We prepare the application papers required by the relevant authorities, which vary by jurisdiction, together with supporting documentation.

3

Application & Filing

We submit the application to the relevant court or registry and liaise with the authority during the review period. Timelines vary depending on the jurisdiction, estate complexity and the authority’s workload.

4

Estate Administration

Once the grant is issued, we assist executors in collecting estate assets, settling liabilities, resolving tax obligations, and maintaining clear records throughout.

5

Distribution & Accounts

We prepare the estate accounts, confirm each beneficiary's entitlement, coordinate the transfer of assets, and obtain receipts as required to bring the administration to a proper close.

Cross-Border Expertise

Practical experience of how estate matters cross borders.

Estate matters that cross borders involve differing legal systems, procedures and requirements. We help clients understand what applies in each relevant jurisdiction.

Applications for Grants

We help prepare and coordinate applications to the relevant courts and registries, whether the matter is contentious or non-contentious. Requirements vary by jurisdiction.

Family Provision Claims

Where the applicable law allows, we advise beneficiaries and potential claimants on applications for provision, and represent estate representatives in defending such claims.

Financial Institution Liaison

Releasing estate assets held with banks, brokers, and other financial institutions requires precise documentation. We manage this process on behalf of executors.

Cross-Border Estate Coordination

Many estates include assets in more than one country. We coordinate with qualified practitioners in each relevant jurisdiction.

Cross-Border Matters

Estate and succession matters often involve clients with regional and global connections, and the legal position can differ significantly from one jurisdiction to another.

For families with interests across multiple jurisdictions, early coordination between advisers in each place helps avoid delay and duplicated effort.

Client Experiences

What clients say about working with Xandori Legal.

My father passed away with assets in three jurisdictions, including a property and an overseas investment account. Xandori Legal handled everything with a clarity and efficiency I did not expect. They were honest about timelines, kept me informed at every step, and the estate was administered without a single dispute among the beneficiaries.

Estate Planning

When a significant life event calls for a will review.

Marriage, divorce, the birth of a child, the acquisition of property in a new jurisdiction — each of these can affect the validity or effect of your will. We explain the circumstances that most commonly require a will review.

Trust Law

Understanding the difference between a bare trust and a discretionary trust.

The type of trust chosen has a direct impact on how assets are held, who has access to them, and how the structure is treated for tax and reporting purposes in relevant jurisdictions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about probate and estate administration.

What is probate and when is it required?
Probate is the legal process by which a court or other authority confirms the validity of a will and authorises an executor to deal with the deceased’s estate. Whether a grant of probate is required, and when, depends on the jurisdiction and the location of the assets. Where someone dies without a valid will (intestate), a similar authority — often called letters of administration — may be required instead.
How long does the probate process take?
How long the process takes varies considerably by jurisdiction. It depends on the procedures that apply, the complexity of the estate, whether the will is contested, whether beneficiaries can be located, and whether assets are held in more than one jurisdiction. We provide realistic timelines at the outset of each matter.
Do I need a lawyer to apply for probate?
It may be possible to make a probate application without legal representation in some jurisdictions, but the authorities typically require precise documentation, and errors or omissions can cause significant delays. For estates with any complexity — multiple assets, overseas components, or more than one beneficiary — taking legal advice is usually advisable. We can assess your position in a short initial consultation.
What happens if someone dies intestate (without a will)?
If a person dies without leaving a valid will, their estate is generally distributed according to the intestacy rules of the applicable jurisdiction, which set an order of priority among relatives. Those rules differ between jurisdictions and do not always reflect what the deceased might have wished. A family member or other appropriate person may need to apply for authority to manage and distribute the estate. We advise on how the applicable rules are likely to operate.
Can a grant of probate be used to deal with overseas assets?
A grant of probate in one jurisdiction does not automatically have legal effect in another. Foreign assets may require a separate grant, or recognition or re-sealing of the original grant where that process is available, in the country where the assets are situated. We coordinate with legal practitioners in the relevant jurisdictions to manage this process, reducing the administrative burden on executors.
What is the difference between an executor and an administrator?
An executor is a person named in a will who is appointed to administer the estate. An administrator is appointed by the court where there is no will, or where the named executor is unable or unwilling to act. Both roles carry similar legal responsibilities, but the formal authority granted by the court (probate or letters of administration) differs in how it is obtained. We advise both executors and administrators throughout the administration process.
